Invasive ductal carcinoma is the most common form of breast cancer where cancer cells that have developed within the duct lining actually break through the duct wall and move to the tissues that surround it. Cells may move within the breast, or to other organs of the body through blood or lymph vessels. The latter is also called metastatic breast cancer. This type of breast cancer accounts for 80% of invasive breast cancers.

Invasive lobular carcinoma is one where cancer cells that originate from the lobule move father to affect the tissues that surround it. Although it is less common than invasive ductal carcinoma, it is more difficult to detect because there is no breast lump that you can feel and it may not appear in a mammogram.

It has no lump or tumor, and it cannot be seen in a mammogram, making it even harder to detect in its early stage. The cancer cells have blocked the lymph vessels, causing the inflammation. In terms of stages, this type is Stage III.

Medullary carcinoma is one that is composed of bigger cancer cells with clearly-defined borders separating the tumor and the good, normal cells. This invasive kind of breast cancer makes up for 5% of breast cancers.
